Guest Speaker: Andy Marlow

Every hosta grower loves to show off their plants to anyone who is interested. The problem is that not everyone can come to their garden to see the plants. Just like we do with other things we love, like our families, we can share at a distance using photographs. With ways to share them multiplying, particularly on the internet, the better the photos look the more enjoyment the gardener and the viewer will get from them. That means sharing the best pictures we're capable of taking.

Join us for the February 3, 2022 SOGHS meeting. Andy Marlow, Photo Editor for The Hosta Journal will share his knowledge of “How to Take Better Photos of Your Hostas". Andy has been taking photographs since he was a child, using his family's Kodak Brownie camera, and has been growing hostas since 1979. Combining the two really came together when he was enticed by Bob Olson to become Photo Editor of the Journal in 2003. Andy is part of the Journal triumvirate, along with Editor Bob Olson and Designer Janet Mills, that collects, evaluates and selects photos for the magazine. He's also in charge of the AHS/Hosta Journal annual photo contest.

Our speaker is currently President of the American Hosta Society and is a past president of the Minnesota Hosta Society.

After talking about the various aspects of good hosta photography, Andy would like those in attendance to evaluate some photos based on what they have learned. He would like you to submit your photos for that purpose. No names of photographers will be revealed! Please send 3 to 5 photos to him at amarlow@me.com by February 1.
